Agility Ladder Drills in Handball Goalkeeper Training
I love using agility ladder drills in handball goalkeeper training! It’s especially amazing to see the improvements with young goalkeepers, who are usually struggling in the beginning even with the simple ladder drills.
Once when goalkeepers are comfortable with any of the new agility ladder drills we work on, I like adding additional challenges and tasks with other body parts as well.
In this video you can see just a few drills, but if you would like to see more of them – you can purchase my Agility Ladder Drills video compilation with 102 drills.
As you can see, in some of the first ladder drills, I have my goalkeepers hold out stretched resistance bands (or sometimes wooden or plastic sticks) above their heads – just to get their arms in the proper basic stance position. I like doing additions like that if and when my young goalkeepers need assistance in correcting their arms position, or when I want to work more on their proper body position during the frontal or lateral movement with legs.
In the next few drills in the video, my goalkeepers were performing a few different drills with their arms – just for the purpose of upper and lower body disassociation. You can read more about that on this link, where I offered more explanation and theory about the agility ladder drills that I am using in my work.
