Step Board Warm Up Drills
There are plenty of different ways to do a warm up for your training and one of the very good ones are step board warm up drills.
Step boards (workout steps, steppers, steps) are amongst some of my favorite “tools” to use in work with goalkeepers because they are incredibly versatile.
I like using step board drills in the warm up phase, to get the blood flow and my goalkeepers’ heart rate up. And I like using them also in the main part of the training, for some of the specific goalkeeper exercises.
Needless to say, but I will add it – step board drills are also excellent as a cardio workout.
The elevation of the step board adds resistance and it challenges the muscles that are already being used.
In the video below, you can see some of the most common footwork drills with step boards that I like to use in the warm up phase of the training.
The first few drills are for individual work (one goalkeeper on one step board), and the rest of the drills are for work in a smaller group on a few step boards.
When it comes to the step board drills – the number of drills stops only when your imagination stops.
However, when you decide to use them – remember your “why”, “when”, and “how”!
