Eye-Hand Drills Against The Wall

Eye-Hand Drills Against The Wall

Eye-hand coordination drills offer countless benefits for handball goalkeepers, improving their performance in many very important areas.

Improved Reaction Times

These drills help goalkeepers react faster to shots. By practicing the coordination between what they see and how they respond, they can decrease the time it takes to initiate a movement, leading to quicker saves.

Accuracy in Saves

Better eye-hand coordination means goalkeepers can more precisely align their hand movements with the path of the ball, improving their chances of catching or deflecting shots accurately, even in high-pressure situations.

Improved Decision-Making

As goalkeepers improve their eye-hand coordination, they also develop their ability to make split-second decisions. They become better at judging the speed, direction, and likely destination of the ball, allowing them to decide the best response in a fraction of a second.

Increased Confidence

With improved skills comes increased confidence. Goalkeepers who are confident in their eye-hand coordination are more likely to take calculated risks, knowing they can rely on their reflexes and precision.

Better Game Concentration

Regular practice of eye-hand coordination drills can also improve goalkeepers’ focus and concentration during games. They become good at maintaining high levels of attention over extended periods, crucial for staying ready and responsive throughout a match.

Adaptability

These drills can help goalkeepers adapt to different styles of play and unpredictable situations. By training their eyes and hands to work together seamlessly, they can adjust their positioning and technique on the fly, making them more versatile and effective against various opponents.

Video With a Few Ideas of The Eye-Hand Drills Against The Wall

In the video below, you can see a few eye-hand coordination exercises against the wall.

You can make these exercises more challenging if you take different kinds of bouncy balls (different shape, different size, different material), or if you add different additional challenges, such as balancing on one leg for example!

Be creative, and have fun! 🙂

In summary, incorporating eye-hand coordination drills into a handball goalkeeper’s training is invaluable. It sharpens their reflexes, enhances their precision, and improves their overall game intelligence, making them better in the goal.
